Anxiety, Stress and Related Conditions

A girl feeling sad

We will all suffer with some form of anxiety during our lives. It is a natural phenomenon and the way we react to perceived danger and threat. Our natural flight/fight response kicks in as a protection mechanism. It is when the severity becomes a little more than we can cope with emotionally and, sometimes, physically, that we become ill. Even merely being able to relax both body and mind becomes a burden that is seemingly beyond our natural ability.

Hypnosis can help. Whilst in hypnosis we relax our thought process to the extent that we are able to take on suggestive therapies that, in turn, aid in changing the way we both think and react about what we perceive to be stressful situations. It can promote a deeper sense of calm and control over how we then see the world and perception of threat and danger.

Fears and Phobias

Bridge

We are born with two innate fears only, the fear of loud noises and the fear of falling. Every other fear is learned behaviour.

Because our belief systems are formed at a very young age, it is easy to understand how we then develop so many different fears as we grow through childhood and into adulthood. Most of us have a fear of something in our life regardless of how irrational and perhaps, irrelevant, it may seem to someone else. It becomes embedded deep in our subconscious minds and is something we tend to forget about until faced with a scenario that sparks our minds into thinking about the fear.

Hypnotherapy utilises a number of techniques that can aid in dispelling and quelling those fears. Suggestion therapy can help us to think differently about how we perceive and react to what has caused the fear in the first place.

Grief and Bereavement

Grieving is a natural process and something that need to go through to create a sense of catharsis and acceptance. Sometimes the grief is a due to a recent event but may well also be something that has been deep rooted and almost forgotten about.

Because of the deep relaxed state that hypnosis promotes, it can help us to process our thoughts in a more objective and effective manner in the way we deal with the various stages of grief.

The event that brought about the grief will never go away. What may however, is the deep rooted emotional turmoil that we naturally experience.

Loss of Confidence and Self-Belief

Misty Coastal Cliffs

Belief is deep rooted in our subconscious minds and is developed at a very young age. It is not easily changeable because it is not something that is readily active in our thoughts at all time. This can lead to loss of confidence and a feeling of low self-esteem.

Hypnosis relaxes the mind to be able to accept suggestion and thoughts of positive change within our psyche. It can aid in building resilience and encourage a mindset shift to enable us to see what once drained us of confidence and belief in a far more objective manner.

Insomnia

Woman in Bed

There are times in life when we just cannot seem to find that safe place in our minds. That place where we go to escape from the rigours of daily life. Sometimes that occurs when we least need or expect it, i.e.: at the time when we need to switch off and rest. Our minds can become uncontrollable and overactive in the way it reacts and no matter how you try to change your thought processes, it just keeps on in a manner that is not conducive to relaxing and unwinding.

Hypnosis and suggestion therapy can aid in creating that safe place. The place where you are subconsciously able to escape to and forget about the strains of life. It can aid in blocking out the noise to restore balance and promote a night of more intense rest.

Breaking Habits

Street Teens

Unknowingly, habits dominate so much of our lives. We tend to live our lives somewhat blinkered and on auto-pilot so often that much of what we do to merely function is habitual as the mechanics of it all is based within our subconscious, non-thinking minds.

It goes without saying that not all habits are of detriment. Some are imperative to everyday existence. Hypnotherapy is a safe and effective treatment option for those looking to break bad habits. It can not only provide individuals with the tools and strategies they need to overcome their habits and make lasting changes, but also create new beliefs and behaviours replaces the bad habits of old.

Exam Nerves

Glasses and Music Sheet

Exam scenarios are not designed to be comfortable. In fact, they create the exact opposite and strive to test our ability, resilience and drive us out of our comfort zones. Occasionally the nerves kick in well in advance of the actual event which can in turn adversely effect the way we prepare for it. Whether it be classroom based or something out in the field so to say, for most, it is a natural reaction.

Hypnotherapy can promote a sense of enhanced self-belief and confidence that enables us to approach the event in a far more positive frame of mind. It calms the mind promoting a sense of calm, positivity and preparedness.

PTSD

Stormy Coastal Landscape

Post-traumatic stress disorder typically occurs after an event that has stretched us well beyond our natural coping mechanisms and involves symptoms such as flashbacks, intense and persistent feelings of fear, anxiety, helplessness, nightmares and intrusive memories of the event that caused the trauma in the first place. Symptoms of PTSD often don’t materialise immediately. They can lay dormant for years and brought to the fore by experiencing or maybe even hearing about a similar event. PTSD is a debilitating condition that can adversely affect our daily lives.

Hypnotherapy can help to discharge the emotions experienced in relation to the event, improve quality of sleep and to reduce how we experience and react to it as a whole.

Sports Performance

Man Lifting Heavy Barbell

I have played a lot of sport in my life. I’d like to say it was all to a very high level, sadly, I can’t. That said, I too suffered from confidence and other related challenges that sometimes affected performance. Performing at any level in a sporting environment not only takes ability in the specific discipline, it also takes focus, concentration, control and mental resilience.

Hypnotherapy utilises a combination of visualisation and relaxation techniques which can aid in bringing about a stronger and more resilient mindset to unlock potential and eradicate mental blockages.

Life Transitions

Motorcyclists on Winding Road

This topic is very close to my heart due to having personally experienced a number of transitions, some unforeseen, in the past. Sometimes life will throw you a curve ball that, no matter what your coping mechanism or ability is, you just cannot bat away effectively. These events are difficult to comprehend on occasion and can impact us negatively on both a mental and physical capacity. Sometimes the fundamental hurdle to overcoming the event positively is actually recognising it has happened and why. Letting go of what once was is key to moving forward. That was my challenge, I struggled with that.

Hypnotherapy can assist in reframing your mindset and bringing about understanding of what happened and emotionally balancing you. The relaxation techniques can help to manage stress and anxiety effectively and regain control of your focus and motivation. It can also help you to regain your confidence and build resilience to finally let go and move forward objectively and effectively.

Hypnoanalysis

Serenity

Hypnoanalysis is a form of therapy that involves a combination of hypnosis and psychoanalytic
techniques. It is designed to identify, discharge and resolve the root cause of deep psychological
issues. Hypnoanalysis is a technique we use when perhaps the responses to traditional suggestion
therapy hasn’t quite dislodged deeper rooted issues.

Hypnoanalysis can help clients to resolve their challenges rather than merely trying to manage
symptoms as effectively as possible. It involves a number of different techniques that I will cover in
full before suggesting the transition to this form of therapy.
